With the Watch GT 3, Huawei is testing a solid smartwatch heart rate monitor combination. The current price is right – but for whom could the watch be worthwhile?
The Huawei Watch GT 3 at a glance
The Huawei Watch GT 3 is a solid watch for athletes that is equipped with all the important sensors. The range of functions includes a heart rate monitor, GPS and an SpO2 sensor (blood oxygen measurement). And so that you don't have to do without music when doing sports without a smartphone, there is also an MP3 player function with a storage capacity of 1.8 GB. A small weak point, however, is the in-house system HarmonyOS, which is not yet optimal in terms of operation. Some of the fonts are a bit small, voice control only works in combination with a current Huawei smartphone, and routes have to be created externally and then imported.
The heart rate monitor lasts around 13.5 days in standard operation without GPS, with GPS the runtime is drastically reduced to 14.3 hours. That's not unusual, but the competition still manages 20 hours in some cases.
The bottom line is that the Huawei GT 3 is an interesting mix of smartwatch and classic sports watch with GPS.
Our conclusion at the time of testing:
"The Huawei Watch GT is a good sports watch that scores particularly well in the test with its accuracy and ergonomics. It offers a large selection of sports functions, but Huawei has sometimes set less good priorities. The equipment and battery performance of the heart rate monitor are solid. However, the new Huawei operating system poses some hurdles and not everything runs as smoothly as it should when using it. Nevertheless, the Huawei Watch GT is a good alternative to the sports watches from Garmin and Polar." You can read the entire test here.
