IBM transforms operations with RISE with SAP

At this year's Sapphire, SAP not only celebrated its 50th anniversary, but also announced projects with partners. For example, IBM is carrying out one of the world's largest corporate transformation projects based on SAP ERP software. […]
As part of the expanded partnership between SAP and IBM, IBM will migrate to SAP S/4HANA to conduct work in more than 120 countries, 1,000 legal entities and numerous IBM software, hardware, consulting and finance divisions. The project, which focuses on improving business processes with RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, will ultimately move more than 375 TB of data on IBM Power on Red Hat Enterprise Linux to IBM Cloud, with IBM Consulting as RISE premium provider acts. Because RISE with SAP provides companies with the tools to pursue digital transformation and a faster transition to the cloud.
RISE with SAP helps IBM to centralize and standardize data worldwide. With access to the SAP HANA database, data can be accessed in real-time and shared more efficiently between business units and teams. The expanded partnership will also help improve decision-making through AI and automated workflows. Once the transition is complete, nearly all of IBM's $58 billion in revenue will come from SAP software.
"This expanded partnership will enable IBM to accelerate enterprise transformation in the cloud and drive future growth," says Christian Klein, CEO and member of the Executive Board of SAP SE. This will enable IBM to offer its customers the best possible support and flexibility, enabling them to simplify and accelerate their business transformations while reaping the benefits of RISE with SAP.
Eventually, as part of this business transition, more than 300 SAP instances will be moved and 500 servers running RISE with SAP on IBM Power will be consolidated on Red Hat Enterprise Linux on IBM Cloud. The migration to SAP S/4HANA is already underway across the company's software division. The first implementation focuses on IBM's software-as-a-service and billing system. Customers and IBM business partners can already use the simplified billing and payment systems and process orders and contracts quickly.
With over 38,000 highly qualified SAP consultants, IBM Consulting offers the necessary consulting, implementation, security, industry and technical expertise to transform these complex systems and applications into a digital environment. This is another example of IBM and SAP's accelerated ecosystem strategy, which, by combining technology and consulting expertise and support for most cloud environments, makes it easier for customers to adopt a hybrid cloud approach and move their mission-critical SAP workloads to the cloud .
“Customers are looking for more choice and control when modernizing their mission-critical workloads. The business transformation enabled by RISE with SAP is a milestone for both companies due to its complexity and scale,” said Arvind Krishna, IBM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Extended premium supplier option for RISE with SAP on IBM Power and Red Hat Enterprise Linux on IBM Cloud
In order to offer customers more flexibility and computing power, even in highly regulated industries, IBM provides its customers with the same cloud-based computing power that underlies its own migration. For customers running RISE with SAP on IBM Cloud, an extension to BREAKTHROUGH IBM's Premium Supplier Option for RISE with SAP provides an additional ability to run workloads on IBM Power on Red Hat Enterprise Linux on IBM Cloud.
As a premium supplier, IBM was the first cloud provider to offer infrastructure, technical managed services, business transformation and application management services. As customers increasingly leverage hybrid cloud strategies to modernize their workloads, IBM and SAP are offering customers running on Power servers the ability to run RISE with SAP on the cloud version of SAP S/4HANA on a Power infrastructure , which matches the architecture they run locally. Organizations deploying IBM Power on IBM Cloud can achieve high levels of performance in a cloud environment for their mission-critical workloads, powered solely on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with the flexibility, resiliency and security capabilities of IBM and Red Hat.
