Interview with 'The Batman' star Robert Pattinson: 'If you wear the suit, you're Batman'

Beginning March 3, 2022, Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz will shake up Gotham City's underworld as Batman and Catwoman. Before the theatrical release of "The Batman" they spoke to CHIP.de about what it's like to embody these iconic roles and what about part 2.
On March 3, 2022, "The Batman" will finally start one of the biggest blockbusters of the year in cinemas. In the comic book adaptation, Robert Pattinson slips into the role of the Dark Knight for the first time and must catch the serial killer Riddler (Paul Dano), who targets Gotham City's most influential figures. Batman gets support from Selina Kyle aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz). During their investigation, the two not only sink deep into a swamp of crime, violence and corruption, but also uncover a huge conspiracy.
"The Batman" is without a doubt the darkest film about the Dark Knight by far. It's also the first time we see him primarily as a detective. And that's why this adaptation is perhaps the best so far.
Among other things, TVSPIELFILM.de spoke with Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz before the theatrical release of "The Batman". But the interview also revolved around which of the two is the better detective and what "The Batman 2" looks like.

"The Batman" interview with Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz

Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz star in The Batman.

Miss Kravitz, Mr. Pattinson, congratulations! "The Batman" is, in my opinion, the best film about the Dark Knight that the world has ever seen. How did it feel to be in the legendary bat costume for the first time?

In what way?

Robert Pattinson: You feel twice as heavy, twice as wide, like you have an incredibly imposing presence. And people behave differently around you as soon as you wear the suit. This is definitely an extremely powerful experience. You could feel the story in it right away. When you wear the suit, you are Batman and not an actor impersonating him.

Zoë Kravitz: Yes, it's a surreal experience.

Miss Kravitz, did you feel the same about a character as iconic as Catwoman?
Zoë Kravitz: It's a bit different for me because the catsuit in this film is actually Selina Kyle's motorcycle suit. Batman's suit, on the other hand, is so specific and iconic in its appearance. And with Catwoman, we're still working towards the catsuit in The Batman. But just seeing your name on the list alongside Selina Kyle and Catwoman is insane. It's a childhood dream come true.
'The Batman' star Robert Pattinson: 'I'm very good at detective work'
What's special about "The Batman" is that you finally see Batman as the character he was originally created to be: a detective. What do you think: which of you is the better detective and why?
Robert Pattinson: I'm very good at detective work, I have to say. I'm not good at puzzles…

Zoë Kravitz: Same with me .

Robert Pattinson: …but I'm good at finding things out.
Zoë Kravitz: Oh, that's kind of creepy. What do you already know (laughs)? So yes, I think Robert is the better detective. He is also very curious.
Their on-screen chemistry is amazing and one of the highlights of the film. Will there be a reunion of the two of you in The Batman 2?
Zoë Kravitz: I really hope so. It would be weird if they did The Batman 2 without me (laughs).
Robert Pattinson: Recast (laughs)! So I would love to go back. The film is set in such a short amount of time, it hints at so many things going on in Gotham City and so much has happened in Batman and Catwoman's past as well. So there are still so many ways to go in different directions. And hopefully that will happen.
