Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360: Flat convertible with strong hardware

Whether housing, display or connections – in the new edition, many things are carried over from the predecessor. The big innovation is the switch to the latest processor generation from Intel. The slim design and the low weight are still a highlight.
Samsung attacks: With these laptops they want to attack Huawei and Lenovo in 2022

Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 with a sleek exterior

The notebooks from Samsung have not yet attracted attention due to the large color spectacle, and this does not change with the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 either.
The manufacturer is a little less creative here and simply takes over the outer shell of the predecessor, which is only colored in a slightly darker gray. However, the slim lines have not lost any of their attractiveness. The notebook is an eye-catcher.
Not a "soft box" despite the small amount of material used

Stable lightweight construction

The Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 weighs just 1.04 kg. Narrow bezels around the display ensure a compact footprint of 30.3 x 20.2 cm, with a height of only 1.2 cm. The frugal use of materials only has a minor impact on the stability, and the notebook looks anything but fragile. The screen is also surprisingly stable in its lid. Although it can be twisted, it cannot be pushed through. The so-called wave formation also does not occur. The hinges pay tribute to lightweight construction. Slight bumps are enough to make the display vibrate or move it out of position.

Classic full HD display installed

Like the case, Samsung has also adopted the display from the predecessor. Samsung uses AMOLED technology for its Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 and thus delivers a display that scores with crisp colors and high contrasts. But it's quite classic: The 13.3-inch panel has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. So it's a more conventional Full HD screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9. When it comes to sharpness of detail, you have to accept compromises compared to competitors with a higher resolution.

Galaxy Book2 Pro 360: More power, quieter operation
Intel has made a lot of fuss about its current, twelfth generation of core processors. And not without reason, because the CPU differs significantly from its predecessor. The Core i7-1260P has twelve CPU cores, four of which are powerful performance cores, each of which can run two threads in parallel with clock speeds of up to 4.7 GHz. The eight efficiency cores are intended to save energy in less load-generating applications, but can of course also act in combination. The new processor is not only trimmed for efficiency, but also delivers significantly more performance. Both single-core and multi-core applications achieve values that are roughly on par with AMD's Ryzen 7 5800H in Geekbench. The latter, however, can consume significantly more energy.

On the other hand, little has changed with the GPU. In principle, the same Iris Xe is installed that was also used in the previous generation. Nevertheless, it can also score with a small performance plus of about 10 percent, which is not least due to the slightly increased clock frequency of 1.4 GHz and the faster LPDDR5 RAM.
Despite the significant increase in performance, the notebook is considerably quieter than its predecessor. The noise is clearly audible under load, but the fan calms down quickly.

Small SSD from Samsung

Samsung is one of the industry giants among SSD manufacturers, so it is not surprising that the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 has a Samsung storage drive inside. With 256 GB, however, it is rather small by current standards. In addition, the speed is not exactly a force. Data is read at less than 2000 MB/s, while writing speeds of just over 1100 MB/s are possible.

Large battery, usable runtime

The Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 doesn't offer much space under the keyboard, but the battery is relatively large at 63 Wh. In addition, Intel has taught its new generation of processors to handle battery reserves better. It's noticeable, but don't expect miracles.
After an hour in the browser, 18 percent of the reserves are used up. That's not such a bad rate for an i7, even though even high-performance ARM SoCs still need significantly less energy. If the processor has to do more, the energy requirement also increases. On the "Asphalt 9: Legends" racetracks, 54 percent of the reserves are still left after an hour. This means that a working day can hardly be done without reloading.

The wrong pen

Samsung makes optimal use of the available space and offers a keyboard with 1.7 cm large keys, which nevertheless suffer somewhat from the slim form of the notebook. Because the key travel is low. The stroke is also rather soft. The well-designed touchpad is placed in the middle and is a good size at 11.5 x 6.7 cm. Rather it would not have been possible.
Thanks to its slim form, the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 almost feels like a real tablet in tablet mode. However, the weight is still a bit too high to completely outperform them. There is nothing to complain about in terms of the responsiveness and precision of the touch display, but the pen is a disappointment. Because it is not the same drawing tool that the manufacturer includes with the models of the Tab S8 series. The execution is much simpler. There is no pressure-sensitive tip, so that artistic ambitions quickly reach their limits.

Too flat for a classic USB port?

3x USB, but only type C

With a headphone jack, a micro SD card slot and three USB ports, the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 is basically not badly positioned. However, the USB ports are only in Type-C format. Even if the standard is becoming more and more established and can now even be found on inexpensive bicycle lamps, much of what is used on the desk is still equipped with a classic type A interface. So it doesn't work without an adapter.
When it comes to wirelessly integrating peripherals, Bluetooth 5.1 is used. In addition, the Intel AX211 module in the chipset is used for network access, which supports the latest WLAN 6E standard.

Conclusion on the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360

Thanks to its low weight and slim shape, the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 is not only an eye-catcher, but is also one of the few convertibles that can also be used for longer periods in tablet mode. The execution itself is also successful. The case is still comparatively stable, the processor is fast and can hardly be heard in less demanding applications. There is a point deduction for the display resolution, which – in view of the competition – could definitely be a bit higher. The better version of the Samsung pen would also be desirable at this point. The fact that there is no classic USB interface is another shortcoming, especially in everyday work. There is not much more to complain about.
